Hand Sanitizer Basket

Finished Size: Approximately 6" high - allow pump when open, to be above the rim

Materials
2" x 3 1/2" Oval Base 1/4" Flat Flat - spokes & rim row 11/64" Flat Oval - weavers & lashing 7mm Flat Oval - Rim	Seagrass - rim filler 8 oz. bottle Hand Sanitizer 1/4" Ribbon - approx. 2 ft. - optional

From 1/4" FF cut 21 spokes each 8" long and insert into the wood base. You may have to taper the ends if they fit too close together. Loose spokes may be glued in or folded on the end or "wedged" into the slot. Spokes should all be inserted, smooth side up.

Taper the end of one 11/64" FO weaver approx. 10". Begin weaving on the long side (of the base), farthest from you. Place the tapered end under one of the spokes and weave clockwise around the basket (left-handed weavers will have to reverse). Weave completely around the base for 2 or 3 rows, packing tightly to the base.

At this point, you can pick up the base, upset the spokes, and continue weaving clockwise from the side closest to your body. Keep the spokes straight up and try to keep the tension even. Weave about 30 rows (5 3/4" high), and taper the end of the weaver to finish.

Weave one row of 1/4" FF for the rim row, adjusting for odd number of spokes (the last weaver will need to be over two spokes). Cut and tuck spokes (cutting off inside spokes even with the rim row and tucking the outside spokes). Then cover the rim row with 7mm FO, one piece on the inside and one on the outside, insert seagrass for filler and lash with 11/64" FO.

This is a fun little basket desinged to hold an 8oz. bottle of Hand Sanitizer to ward off the season's flu viruses. The pattern was designed using leftover supplies from other Guild basket projects. The basket was woven with 11/64" flat oval continuous weave. Options are abundant. Feel free to create your own weaving design and material.
