Handle Assembly: Insert the cut handle into the handle cutout area in the base. Make sure the handle is fully into the cutout and straight. Then drive in the brads. Some people also put a little bit of wood glue on the handle when they put the handle in the base. But, you still want to use the brads. You can either drive the brads in on the bottom or top of the base. If you do the bottom, make sure the brads are seated, otherwise it could scratch something.
I pre-stained the pie frame with Oak Weaver's Stain before weaving.
From 5/8" FF cut 26 spokes each 10" long. Taper each spoke for about 2" to a width of 1/2" at the end.
Insert into the groove of the base 13 spokes on each side of the handle. If the groove in your base is too narrow to insert the spokes, run sandpaper around the groove several times and/or sand down the ends of each spoke (you want a tight fit).
Twine 5 times around the base with #2R. Gently upset the spokes. Measure (2) 26 ft. pieces of #2 seagrass and chase weave for 15 rows. Weave 3 rows start & stop 1/4" FF dyed (I used hunter green). Then measure (2) 13 ft. pieces of #2 seagrass and chase weave for 7 rows, and 3 rows start & stop of the 1/4" FF dyed. Again, measure (2) 13 ft. pieces of #2 seagrass and chase weave for 7 more rows. Pack well as you weave. Lastly, weave in 1/2" FF for your rim row. Pack well again before cutting and tucking.
Rim with 5/8" FO outside, 5/8" FF inside, seagrass between rims, and lash with 3/16" FO.
Fill with fruit and enjoy.
