From 5/8" FF cut 7 spokes 43" long and 11 spokes 37" long. From 3/8" FF cut 6 filler spokes 22" long. Soak briefly.

Mark the center of several spokes on the wrong side. Layout 7 spokes (43") horizontally, alternating with the 6 filler spokes (smooth side up). Line up the center marks. Weave in 1 center spoke vertically starting under the center spoke and weaving over the filler spokes. Weave in 5 more spokes on each side of the center spoke. Adjust base to 13 1/2"L x 6 1/2"W. Fold the filler spokes to the underneath side of the base, and tuck under the 3rd spoke of base weaving. Trim off any excess. Twine 2 times around the base with #2 R. Upset the spokes.

Weave 25 rows start and stop with 3/8" FF. Keep the spokes up straight and don't let the corner spokes slant. The width of the basket at the top should be 10" to accommodate the handles. Weave in 1 rim row 7mm FF.

Pack well. Cut and tuck spokes. Rim with 1/2" FO, seagrass between rims, and lash with 7mm FF. Cut 3 pieces of 1/2" FO each approximately 6 1/2" long for reinforcements on the bottom of the basket. Wet these pieces to straighten and taper both ends. Refer to photo for placement.

Attaching the handles: Locate the center spoke on the long side of the basket. Count 2 spokes over from this center spoke and put a pencil mak on the rim. This will be a "handle spoke". Repeat on the other side of the center spoke (there will be 3 spokes in between the "handle spokes"). Do the same on the opposite side of the basket. Dampen the rim area before drilling the holes through the 1/2" FO. If the lasher is in the way, just move it slightly to one side. Attach the handles with #6 screws, bead, washer & nut. Profile of the handle attachment (from outside to inside of basket): screw, bead, handle, washer, rim & nut. Cut off the screw if it is too long, and file the end if needed.
